In the first ever scoping review of its kind, this report parses out factors that help or hinder adoption of eConsult. Facilitators to eConsult adoption included: engaged leadership, early adopters, provider incentives, user-friendly technology and integration with EMRs. This can be summarized as the desire to improve care coordination. Barriers stemmed from: provider resistance, lack of reimbursement, liability concerns and lack of integration into EMRs.
